WORK FOR CITSA: Student Accommodation Officer

The Student Accommodation Officer will manage the CIT Student Accommodation facilities (66 rooms) whilst also support the CITSA Student Support Officers and CIT Staff to ensure that best practice accommodation services and advice is available for CIT students. This includes:

  • managing accommodation placement for international and regional students
  • providing support to international and regional students in residence at CIT

This role is currently a minimum of 25 hours per week but will consider full time employment for the right candidate. The position may be based at either the CIT Reid or Bruce campus.

Applicants are asked to include an up to date resume of no more than four pages which clearly details your relevant skills and experience and how they relate to the requirements and capabilities for the role. •    Describe what traits you think you possess that makes you a strong student accommodation officer?

The successful candidate must be willing to undertake a National Police Check and a Working with Vulnerable People (ACT) check.

Job tasks and responsibilities

Key tasks include:

  • assessing students’ accommodation needs, locating appropriate accommodation, completing the required paperwork and briefing them about their responsibilities
  • assisting with the co-ordination of emergency maintenance problems with CIT’s student accommodation facilities including out of hours (24 hour emergency phone)
  • organising for the regular maintenance of CIT’s student accommodation facilities
  • maintaining current accommodation files and associated data records
  • assisting the Accounts Manager with follow up action relating to accommodation bad debts
  • preparing an annual budget for student accommodation
  • managing airport reception for international students
  • co-ordinating an accommodation orientation program in collaboration with CIT support services
  • solving problems (eg. dealing with behavioural issues, arranging appropriate support/counselling services, non payments)

Skills and experience

Skills required;

  • To have an experience of or an understanding of the tertiary sector, in particular, the TAFE sector
  • A knowledge of internal and external agencies that support students, particularly in the area of student accommodation and/or housing
  • Excellent customer relations, problem solving and high-level attention to details
  • To have an understanding of the needs and expectations of students
  • Strong communication (written and oral), relationship management and negotiation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team
  • Excellent time management skills, with the demonstrated ability to use initiative by acting independently using discretion and within organizational limitations
  • Advanced skills in office technology and social media technology
  • An appreciation and understanding of the purpose, and operations of the student organization at CIT
  • Ability to organize events, workshops and/or training
