FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHER AND STUDIO ASSISTANT Family photographer and studio assistant Salary range: $28 – $38 per hour plus superannuation, based on experience.

Hours: 30+ hours per week

Location: Harrison, ACT (predominantly)

Mel Hill Photography is a busy photography studio in Canberra specialising in weddings, family portraiture, corporate headshots, events and photo booths.

We require a family focused photographer to join our busy team. This role involves working closely with newborn babies, children, families and their pets in our studio and at times outdoors/on location.  The successful applicant will have a fun, energetic and outgoing nature in order to capture the best in our client, and be interested in applying themselves in other parts of our photography business including sales / marketing and administration.

Position responsibilities

Photographing family portraiture, maternity and newborn photography, cake smashes, childcare portraits, christenings and family celebrations.

Photo retouching.

Product sales.

Develop and actively seek new opportunities.

Operate and maintain photography equipment.

Administration tasks including receiving phone calls, scheduling clients and using our studio management software to manage bookings.

General studio upkeep and organisation including data entry, stocktake and cleaning.

Minimum requirements

Prior experience photographing babies, children and families.

Knowledge of cameras, lighting, composition and styling.

Proficient in Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom and Adobe Camera Raw – retouching and using templates, actions and filters.

Available to work at least at least one day on most weekends.

Able to lift up to 30kg.

Non smoker.

WWVP Card or eligible to apply for one.

Vaccinated or able to be vaccinated (against common illnesses ie. flu, whooping cough, MMR)

Strong attention to to detail, trustworthy, reliable and well groomed.

A genuine desire to work in the photography industry.

Outstanding and consistent customer service skills.

Excellent organisation skills, ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.

Articulate, friendly and a good communicator.

Ability to use initiative and work unsupervised – a strong self starter.

Can do attitude, team-player with a good sense of humour!

An ideal candidate would also have:

Ability to drive a manual vehicle.

Experience with Canon camera system and lenses.

Design or creative writing skills
