February 14 – February 16 Fyshwick Welcome Week CITSA
Venue: Fyshwick Campus, Canberra Avenue, Fyshwick ACT. 8.30am – 10.30am. Free entry.

Another year, another Welcome Week. We will be cooking up a storm on the BBQ each morning (Tuesday 14th, Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th February). Come and join us and see what special guests we have each day.

February 20 – February 24 Welcome Week CITSA
Venue: All CIT campuses. 10am – 2pmFree entry.

Another year, another Welcome Week. Each morning we will be giving away fresh fruit salad for breakfast. Each campus will have its own Market Day (Southside Tuesday 21st Feb 10am – 2pm, Reid Wednesday 22nd Feb 10am – 2pm) and Bruce Thursday 23rd Feb 9am – 12pm). A great day of fun, plenty of giveaways and some great stalls. Attendees include Directions ACT with the Party Bus, Mission Australia, Centrelink, ACTION Buses and Red Bull just to name a few. Come and join us.

February 29 Leap Year Birthdays
Venue: All CIT campuses. 9am – 4pm.

Does your birthday fall on the 29th February? For those students who celebrate a leap year birthday, come into any Cafe Yala and show any ID with your date of birth on it and we will shout you a coffee and muffin. If you are not on campus that day, visit one of the CITSA Office’s and grab a voucher. Happy Birthday!

August 15 – February 28 Collective Passions: The Art of Festival Posters
Venue: National Film and Sound Archive, McCoy Circuit, Acton, Canberra. Open weekdays 9am-5pm and weekends 10am-5pm. Entry is free of charge.

Music and film festivals and festival posters have become an integral part of Australia’s cultural scene. ‘Collective Passions: the Art of Festival Posters’ showcases festival posters in the NFSA’s rich and extensive poster collection. October 28 – April 1 Jo’s Mo Show (with beards)
Venue: National Portrait Gallery, King Edward Terrace, Parkes, ACT. Daily 10am – 5pm. See more information for costs.

Jo’s mo show (with beards) will illustrate changes in beards, moustaches and sideburns from the 1780s to the 1980s. Any survey of the National Portrait Gallery’s collection reveals numerous variations in facial hair fashions. From the be-wigged and clean-shaven gents of the eighteenth century to the 70s blokes brandishing handlebar mos, portraits and the individuals depicted in them show also that such styles are more than mere whim; and that men’s choices to sport facial hair have usually been closely connected to shifts in ideas about politics, society, identity or masculinity. October 29 – March 12 King O’Malley Exhibition
Venue: Canberra Mueseum and Gallery. Corner London Circuit and Civic Square, Canberra City. Weekdays 10am – 5pm. Weekends 12pm – 5pm. Free entry.

King O’Malley, an insurance salesman from the United States of America, injected colour into Australian politics from his election in 1896 until his death in 1954. Displayed together for the first time, the remnants of the life of King O’Malley will be exhibited in an attempt to better understand the man, the politician and the legend.For more info…

November 26 – March 18 Ten Centuries of Manuscript
Venue: National Library of Australia, Parkes Place, Parkes, ACT. Daily 10am – 5pm. Closed Good Friday. Free entry.

Handwritten: Ten Centuries of Manuscript – Treasures from Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin (Berlin State Library) is a major international exhibition exclusive to Canberra. Delivered in association with the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin, the exhibition spans more than 1,000 years and features manuscripts, letters, sketches and musical scores handwritten by major figures in history. Included are beautiful illuminated manuscripts, writings by Machiavelli, Galileo and Goethe, Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro and a rare manuscript by Albert Einstein. The exhibition will form the centrepiece of a rich program of cultural activities, including a film series, musical performances, lectures, workshops and late night viewings. For more info…

December 9 – April 9 Renaissance: 15th & 16th Century Italian Paintings from the Accademia Carrara, Bergamo

This unique exhibition offers audiences an unparalleled chance to see Early and High Renaissance paintings by some of the greatest European artists. Raphael, Botticelli, Bellini and Titian are represented among an amazing gamut of talent and creative splendour. February 19 Movie Extra Tropfest

February 25 Celtic Thunder

Celtic Thunder, Emmet Cahill, Keith Harkin, Ryan Kelly, George Donaldson and Neil Byrne, are set to tour Australia for the very first time in February 2012. Celtic Thunder formed in 2008, comprising five diverse performers who are each a powerhouse in both their solo and ensemble songs. The group is backed by the dynamic Celtic Thunder Band. Their shows use dramatic lighting, choreography and a stage set resembling an ancient stone pathway suggestive of those referenced in Celtic lore. For more info…

February 25 Four Winds Vineyard Bicycle Short Film Night
Venue: Four Winds Vineyard, 392 Murrumbateman Road, Murrumbateman NSW. Saturday 6.30pm – 9pm. Entry $22. Ticket price includes dinner and tastings.

Get your cycling film fix amongst the vines, under the stars at Four Winds Vineyard. Enjoy a wine tasting, pasta dinner and bicycle maintenance demonstration before the films start. Bike shorts from around the world including Smile for Future, a film that follows two BMX riders as they bring joy to kids in Japan’s tsunami affected region.
