Advocacy
The CITSA office staff are able to accompany you as an advocate if you have to meet with CIT staff. You may wish to discuss a result, need help mediating a problem or need a support person at a meeting. CITSA staff can assist and support students with a complaint or advise you about the CIT appeal process.
Accommodation
CIT manages on and off campus accommodation (residential and home stay) for international and regional students. You can call (02) 6207 4661 for more information. Students should check www.citsa.com.au/accommodation for other options. Students can also call the Havelock Housing Association on 62572277 or email them at email: info@havelock.asn.au
Accommodation – Emergency
Call the Canberra Emergency Accommodation Service on 6257 2333. They provide information, referrals, crisis counseling, supported accommodation and may be able to help with low interest loans on rent arrears and bonds: ceas@act.lifeline.org.au
Appealing a result
Students have the right to appeal an assessment decision, that is, to apply for a review of an academic grade or a Recognition of Prior Learning decision. If you wish to appeal against an assessment decision, forms are available from the Student Services Hub on your campus on online at http://www.cit.act.edu.au/current/student/student_forms.
ATMs
There is an ATM located in the Canteen, Reid Campus and outside the Library, Bruce Campus. EFTPOS facilities are also available at Bruce, Reid, Weston and Southside CITSA Bookshops and the Fyshwick Canteen. An EFTPOS facility is available at the Tuggeranong Flexible Learning Centre for purchases only (no cash).
Abstudy / Austudy
A government grant for indigenous and non-indigenous people studying full time – application forms from Centrelink and CITSA Offices. CITSA will help you with your application if you need assistance.
Bookshops
CITSA owns and operates all bookshops on campuses. As well as course related materials, the bookshops sell ACTION bus tickets, movie tickets, postage stamps, phone cards, CDs, memory sticks. Binding and fax services are also available. Discounts are available to students who show their CIT ID Card prior to purchase.
Cafe Yala
There are two Café Yala’s at CIT, one on the Reid Campus and the other on the Bruce Campus. Open Monday to Thursday, from 8am – 8 pm and Friday till mid afternoon. Serving the best coffee, hot chocolates, frappes, home made cakes, and other surprises from time to time!
Canberra Institute of Technology Student Association Incorporated (CITSA)
All students on campus are able to access a range of services and facilities provided by CITSA including bookshops, food services, information shop fronts, social and recreational facilities, student employment listings, advocacy and appeals, representation on CIT committees, grants, information about Centrelink benefits, Heath Care Card Application Forms and much more.
Canberra Institute of Technology Student Association Membership
Membership to CITSA is not automatic. Students who wish to become members can do so either by the registering on the internet www.citsa.com.au or in person at any CITSA Office. Membership entitles you to be involved in the running of the organisation, vote at annual elections and stand for election to CITSA Council.
Canteens
CITSA operates Canteens at Bruce, Reid, Southside and Fyshwick. Opening hours vary from campus to campus so check your campus hours. Each canteen has a Canteen Manager so if you have a problem or feedback please contact them directly.
Centrelink
A government department which provides income support to students who meet the income criteria. Child Care Centres
Childcare centres operate on Bruce and Reid Campuses. Woden Early Childhood Centre is located in the Woden precinct for students attending the Southside Campus.
Complaints
As soon as you are aware of a problem speak to your teacher or someone who you feel you can approach. If you are not satisfied with the response, then contact the Education Manager or Centre Director in which you are studying. At any time through this process you can take a support person with you (friend, family, other student, CITSA staff member, counselling). CITSA office staff understand how this process works at CIT, so you can always ask us for help along the way.
CIT Cards
All CIT students are issued with a CIT ID Card available once your fees are paid. Cards are available from the Student Services Hub located on campus.
CITSA Council
CITSA Council is an elected student Council that oversees the management of the Canberra Institute of Technology Student Association Incorporated. CITSA Council represents its members and provides a channel of communication with CIT, as well as providing services and facilities for its members, and promoting the social, cultural, recreational and intellectual development of its members.
Clubs and Societies
CIT students are invited to join the University of Canberra Union Ltd Clubs & Societies. For a listing of Clubs & Societies currently on offer check out the UCU website or call 6201 5008.

Employment
The CITSA Jobshop has placed hundreds of students in casual and part time jobs while they have been studying at CIT. You can access jobs via www.citsa.com.au/jobshop
Faxes
Bruce, Reid and Southside Bookshops offer a fax service (excluding international faxes). Local faxes are $1.00 per page, STD faxes are $1.50 per page.
Fees
You can pay your fees at a Post Office, by BPay or internet. If you are on campus you can also pay your fees at the Student Services Hub. Check your fee due date to ensure you don’t get a late fee.

Financial Help
The CITSA staff at Bruce, Reid and Southside can give you advice if you find yourself in need of financial help. If you want to phone them call Reid on 62073600, Bruce on 62074310 and Southside on 62074860.
FyshwickNATS
An annual car show held at the Fyshwick Campus in October, jointly sponsored by CITSA and the Summernats Team. Open to all students with a passion to show off their cars and motorbikes.
Graduation
There is a graduation ceremony in May for students who completed courses. If you complete your course at the end of semester one this year, you can graduate in October. International Students who complete their course can graduate in December.
Gym and Fitness Centre – Directions
A fitness centre is available for students from all CIT campuses on the lower ground floor of H Block, Bruce Campus. Phone 6207 4309 for opening times and memberships prices or email directions@cit.act.edu.au CIT students are also eligible to use the UCU Sport & Fitness Centre at the University of Canberra, call 6201 2542 for opening times and student memberships.
International Students
The International Student Office can you provide you with support with studying at CIT. Find all the information you need about CIT, student visa’s, support services, accommodation and university pathways. The office is located at the Bruce Campus but you can call them anytime on 62074662 or email in isu@cit.act.edu.au. If you need advice regarding other aspects of living and working in Canberra contact the CITSA office.
International Student Identity Cards
International Student Identity Cards are issued by STA Travel for students intending to travel overseas @ a cost of $25. ISIC card application forms need to be completed to apply for a card, and you must provide a passport photo at time of applying. National Campus Band Competition
The ACT heats of 2009 National Campus Band Comp will be held in second semester. With music styles ranging from acoustic, indie, punk to heavy metal, we’re sure to have something up your alley. National Tertiary Art Prize
The ACT heat of the National Tertiary Art Prize will be held in second semester. The competition is an online submission of work. Check the AACA website for conditions of entry at http://www.aaca.net.au/
Ombudsman
The Australian Capital Territory Ombudsman assists the ACT community by resolving complaints and fostering good government administration. The Ombudsman is independent and impartial, and works to improve public administration generally. Orientation Week
O’ Week starts second week February and lasts all week. Keep an eye open for the events on your campus and make the time to meet the friendly CITSA staff in the canteens, the bookshops and the offices. Markets, centrelink information, sexual health and family planning, legal advice and a host of other services.
Parking Vouchers
Reid Campus students who are full-time, with a Health Care Card on a low income and have paid their fees may be eligible for Urban Services Parking Vouchers. Applications are available from the Student Services Hub, Ground Floor A Block.
Phones
Public phones are few and far between, but there are public phones on all campuses, Check the maps to see where they are located or ask at the Student Services Hub.
Photocopying
Colour photocopying will soon be available in the Libraries at Bruce, Reid and Southside.
Scholarships
CIT offers government scholarships to students in financial need for help with their course fees or related costs. If you require advice speak to CITSA Staff or CIT Counselling.
Social Activities
CITSA hosts several social activities throughout the year, check the inside front cover of the diary for dates and events. Contact the CITSA Office on your campus for more specific details.
Sport
Students are able to participate the University Games held annually in second semester. If you are interested in playing a team sport then contact the CITSA office who will put you in touch with sporting associations or register you for a CIT sporting team.
Squash
There are two squash courts available for hire at the Reid Campus for students to use. The Reid CITSA Office has equipment for free hire for students and courts must be booked by calling 6207 3600.
Teacher of the Year 2009
Each year students are asked to vote for teachers who they feel have excelled in their role as educators. Voting takes place in Term 2 and 3. This year the Awards night will be held on Wednesday 2 September.
Tenancy and Centrelink / Social Security Law
Both a one off service for people wanted free legal advice and information on tenancy, public housing matters or Centrelink matters and an intake service for those matters that may require more than just a one off advice. Advice Line open everyday except Wed 9.30am-1pm. Phone 6247 2177 or Freecall 1800 445 665 from SE NSW.
Tenants Advice Service
Telephone advice and assistance on private tenancies and rentals in the ACT. Call them for advice on your tenancy or occupancy problems. Monday to Friday 9.30am-1pm Tuesday evenings 4pm-8pm or phone 6247 2011.
Tutoring
CIT and CITSA jointly fund a peer tutoring program. If you need help with the content of your course and you unable to afford a private tutor, contact the Equity Office on 62073314. A small fee is charged for this service.
Welfare Rights and Legal Centre
Provides free legal advice, information and advocacy in housing, Centrelink issues, legal aid appeals and consumer credit contacts. Phone: 6247 2177 or go to Havelock House, Gould St, Turner ACT.
Yurauna Centre
The Yurauna Centre is the indigenous support centre for indigenous students at CIT. If you are an indigenous Australian feel free to contact the staff on 6207 3309.
Youth Allowance
A government grant for people under 25 years old studying full time. Application forms from Centrelink and CITSA Offices. CITSA staff can help with your application if you find it too daunting.
