Fyshwicknats 2011

by John H

The 10th Fyshwicknats was staged in a new venue (under cover in the Fyshwick Trade Skills Centre “Shed”), a wet weather contingency that proved to be a great move providing protection from the showers and a great industrial ambience. Live music was courtesy of two (2) CIT Music Industry Centre Bands and the guest DJ in the Red Bull Event Vehicle. Together they had the joint rockin’ and rollin’. With the poor weather the entrants cars kept moving in and out of cover for judging. The AMWU Dyno Challenge measured the horsepower of the contestants vehicles. The Dyno Challenge was proudly won by Daniel cranking out the Kilowatt Horsepower in his Silvia.

We had a crowd of 200+ punters enjoying a free BBQ and beverages provided by CITSA, Canberra Milk and Redbull. We had entrants from all 4 CIT campuses with the trophies won by students from Fyshwick, Bruce and Southside. CIT Automotive Teachers Judged the event and Summernats Supremo Chic Henry officiated handing out Trophies and Prize Packs courtesy of Summernats.

Top Car was Joel with his awesome Holden SS ute, Top Bike was Garth with a cool Harley Sportster, Top Custom was Ben and his mad Datsun ute, Hot 4 was David and a very smart Honda, Top Workhorse was Peter and his immaculate Yellow ute and Top Audio was Daniel, a clear winner in the sound system department.

CIT Green took the opportunity of handing over the keys to the CIT Electric Vehicle to CIT’s Peter Kowald and CITSA presented a Certificate of Appreciation to Chic and the Summernats team for 10 years supporting Fyshwicknats.

All entrants behaved responsibly on the day (with no burnouts). A big thank you to the Fyshwick Trade Skills Centre for hosting the event.
